Depression, a condition of epidemic proportion in our society, is often seen as a disempowered, diseased state. In truth, it is a natural response of the body to a condition of extreme danger in which movement would mean death or serious bodily harm.
The message of Depression is "Don't Move." If this message comes to us early and often in our lives- if the shock and trauma throwing us into this state occurs in the womb, at birth or in our infancy - the mesage goes into every cell in our bodies. The response become automatic and is easily triggered when similar situations occur or a threaten to occur in later life. We automatically use the body's aggressive energy to protect ourselves by constraining movement and creating thought patterns to justify this constraint.
